Our topic this term is ‘O dan y Ddaear’ or 'Under the Ground' and the children will be finding out about coal mining and how it has changed over the years - including the early use of children and pit ponies underground and discussing whether coal has a future in today’s world of climate change.
They will be learning about how it felt to work in the coal mines of Wales as a child and comparing their lives to those of modern day children. In addition they will be learning about the importance of renewable energy sources and consider the impact of their actions when making choices involving climate change.
As part of the topic we will be visiting Big Pit Mining Museum where the pupils will have the opportunity to actually go underground and take part in a mining workshop.
