Summer Term 2023

Lights, Camera, Action!

 

During this topic - “lights camera action!”, pupils will be looking closely at the story of ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ and how it has been adapted for stage and screen. Pupils will have the opportunity to express themselves through a variety of media including dance and music. Linking with these pupils will participate in the Green Power - Formula 1 Challenge, where they will design, create and race their own car. 

In this Expressive Arts  based topic, learners will become enterprising, creative contributors.by completing a series of tasks where they will design and create their own formula 1 car using sponsorship that they have obtained from local businesses and planning their own assembly for parents, using their knowledge to create an appropriate  car for the period for their stage production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.  They will become ambitious and capable learners by interpreting data, and using digital technologies creatively to communicate, find and analyse information. In addition, they will undertake research and evaluate what they find. They will also use numbers effectively in different contexts.  Through these experiences pupils will demonstrate independence and resilience. They will be given opportunities to ask questions and solve problems related to the topic, using research to help them formulate their own views and opinions. Pupils will also plan and work collaboratively in order to carry out an assembly for parents based on the story of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. In this topic they will have the opportunity to become creative contributors by writing a script for their performance and designing the set and costumes. They will also create a logo and team name linked to their formula 1 work.

The end product for this topic will be an end of term concert for learners to showcase their talents, demonstrating what they have learned during the term and a formula 1 race will be held in Aberdare Park against other participating schools.

 

 

 

Spring Term 2023

During this topic -Digital Developers the children will work in groups to design a sustainable club for the Welsh Rugby Union. This is a competition for children of Wales to compete and build the best design for their local area. 

This is a STEM based topic and learners will complete a series of activities to generate ideas, to create an evaluate sports club for the future using various digital apps including Minecraft Education. The sports club needs to be sustainable, inclusive and accessible to all. They will undertake research and evaluate what they find. Through these experiences pupils will demonstrate independence and resilience. They will be given opportunities to ask questions and solve problems related to the topic, using research to help them formulate their own views and opinions and build on the ideas of others within the school and local communities. 

The end product will involve the pupils creating a video walkthrough with a voice-over of their created build, explaining its key features and justifying their choices. They will create a portfolio showcasing their learning journey as the topic progresses.

The Big Picture

During this topic - ‘Yn ol y’r Dyfodol’, the children will be finding out about various historical events and focusing on how families have been affected by them. 

In this humanities based topic, learners will become ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world. They will be finding, evaluating and using evidence to form their own views about the events that have happened, as well as understanding the impact that our actions have on others. They will also become knowledgeable about their culture, community, society and the world, now and in the past. They will become ambitious and capable learners by interpreting data, and using digital technologies creatively to communicate, find and analyse information. In addition they will undertake research and evaluate what they find. Through these experiences pupils will become ambitious, capable learners by demonstrating independence and resilience. They will be given opportunities to ask questions and solve problems related to the topic, using research to help them formulate their own views and opinions on key events that have occurred in the past ,thus becoming enterprising and creative contributors who are ready to play a full part in life and work. 

The end product for this topic will involve the pupils making a close study of the 1920s, 1940`s, 1960s and modern day, making comparisons in relation to changes in technology, family life in Wales, and the role of women in society. Pupils will then use their understanding of how society and technology has changed to make predictions about the future. Comparisons will be made between Wales and the wider world. Pupils will plan and participate in an Oscars award ceremony, showing their own silent movies and they will also create A night at The Museum where they will present what they have learned and created during the topic. They will also have the opportunity to create a time capsule which reflects life in Wales today.
