Spring Term 2023
Digital Developers
The Big Picture
During this topic - ‘Digital Developers’, the children will work in groups to design a sustainable stadium for the Welsh Rugby Union for their local community. They will create their designs digitally and enter the WRU Competition through Hwb.
In this STEM-based topic, learners will become enterprising and innovative contributors. They will be completing a series of activities to generate ideas and to create and evaluate a sports club for the future using various digital apps including Minecraft education. This sports club needs to be sustainable, inclusive, and accessible to all. Application of DCF skills will be paramount within this topic. Pupils will become ambitious and capable learners by interpreting data and using digital technologies creatively to communicate, find and analyse information. In addition, they will undertake research and evaluate what they find. Through these experiences, pupils will demonstrate independence and resilience. They will be given opportunities to ask questions and solve problems related to the topic, using research to help them formulate their own views and opinions and build on the ideas of others within the school and local communities. They will be working collaboratively to become creative contributors by researching different sports venues and their impact on the community and then, using this knowledge in their own designs. Links with the community to assess what they would like to see in their local area will be key to success in this topic. Pupils will demonstrate an understanding of welsh identity and culture and of their local area.
The end product will involve the pupils creating a video walkthrough with a voice-over of their created build, explaining its key features and justifying their choices. They will create a portfolio showcasing their learning journey as the topic progresses
