The Early Intervention Class is a two term provision for nursery aged pupils who have social communication difficulties. Many of our children have delayed speech and play skills. The focus of the class is to develop the children’s communication skills and also their early joint attention skills in order to prepare them for their next steps in education. This is done through daily interventions such as Attention Autism and by using various communication strategies such as Pecs and Makaton signing. We have close links with agencies such as Educational Psychology, Speech. And Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy and follow their advice to support the children’s individual needs. We run two separate sessions each day, morning and afternoon and currently have 7 children in each group. The class teacher is Mrs Cosgrove and there are 3 LSAs; Miss Clifford, Miss Kaler and Miss Evans.
