Test Information

National Test Information

All pupils from Year 2 to Year 9 sit annual National tests in Reading and Numeracy (Procedural and Reasoning).

The tests assess pupils as follows:

  • Reading - The reading tests are made up of short questions based on two or more texts. Some of the questions check how well the text has been understood, whilst others aim to find out if pupils are able to make judgements about what they are reading.

  • Numeracy - The procedural test measures skills in number, measuring and data skills and the reasoning test measures how well pupils can use what they know to solve everyday problems.

As of 2019, the Numeracy test will take a different format and will be undertaken online.

The personalised online assessments will be phased in over a three-year period with both the Procedural test and Reading test being completed online in 2020 and all three assessments being completed online in 2021.

The paper based National Reading and Numeracy (Reasoning) tests will take place between

Tuesday 7th May and Tuesday 14th May 2019

It is really important that your child is in school to take the tests and we kindly request that you make every effort not to arrange holidays during this period.
