Our building was designed by White Design Architects.
Educational features within the landscape were an important feature for us, as was ensuring the building sat comfortably in its surroundings to reflect the strong character and beauty of the area. The landscape features include a dipping pond, wetland and a woodland nature walk with teaching glades looking out towards the River Taff, a kitchen garden space with raised planting beds, while a large woodchip area incorporates boulders for active imaginative play. Colourful patterns designed by the children are located outside each of the winter garden entrances.#
Environmental features include the specification of FSC timber, solar panels and ground source heat pumps, while the building benefits from natural daylight and ventilation controlled through a building management system (BMS). The rain water harvesting system has an internal, transparent water pipe and measurement display, used as a practical learning tool.
